The TAP Spotlight with Janeth Vasquez

The TAP Spotlight with Janeth Vasquez

A big part of our dream for TAP comes from a desire to encourage, inspire, and celebrate people and organizations who are tapping into their potential. That’s why we created the TAP Spotlight: a regular feature that shines a light on individuals or companies using their gifts, talents, and experiences to make a meaningful difference in the world.

Janeth, the spotlight’s on you!

I often look back on my life and think, "How on earth did I get where I am today?!" Not because I’m sitting on piles of money or wrapped in prestige, but because of where I started. As a child, I knew I didn’t have ideal opportunities to get ahead. I grew up in a place where survival was the goal, not dreaming. Political and economic systems weren’t designed to support everyday people. Dreaming felt like a luxury, maybe even a waste of time.

And yet, somehow, I did learn to dream.

I’ve always been a bit of a dreamer. I was lucky to cross paths with teachers, mentors, and people that I believe God placed in my life at just the right time. They helped me see that I had potential, and that my dreams, big or small, were valid.

My first dream was to finish high school. I made that happen by enrolling in a boarding school and working part-time to fund my tuition and living expenses. Then came my second dream: to earn a university degree. And then another: immigrating to Canada and becoming a Canadian citizen. One by one, I achieved these milestones and slowly started to believe: Nothing can stop me.

When my children arrived, my priorities shifted. I opened a day home so I could dedicate myself to raising them and supporting other families. That time brought so much joy and meaning into my life.

But in putting my kids first, I slowly forgot about me. I lost sight of the dreams that used to set my heart on fire. While I adored being a mom, I started to feel a quiet emptiness, a lack of personal accomplishment. It wasn’t until I stumbled across the phrase "tap into your potential" that something clicked. I knew I had potential; I just didn’t know how to access it. I felt stuck, full of self-doubt, and caught in the chaos of life’s curve balls.

Could I still go after my dreams?

That question led me to prioritize my personal and spiritual growth. For the last three years, I’ve been intentionally rebuilding the life I want. TAP’s coaching program helped me identify and define my core values. That clarity changed everything. I started making decisions that aligned with who I am and what I actually want; and suddenly, the path forward didn’t seem so impossible.

Today, I’m proud to say I’m on that path. I’ve worked through trauma, let go of limiting beliefs, and faced fears that once felt paralyzing. I’ve turned my passion into service for my community, all while being the best mom I can be.

To anyone reading this, I want to say: Look at your inner child. Revisit the dreams you once had. They’re not gone. They’re waiting for you.

Dreams don’t die. They wait.
